COMPAC turns 20!!
Compac was formed in November 1984 when the moustache and the mullet haircut reigned supreme. Compac has been celebrating this milestone and having a great time digging out old photos and being amazed at how much things have changed, and how other milestones only seemed like yesterday.
We at Compac are proud of the growth that we have experienced and have really enjoyed the journey so far. The growth has allowed the Compac team to expand and allowed technology and services to constantly improve.
Horticulture is a fun industry, full of great people that make it all worth while. Thank you to all that have supported us over the years and we look forward to supporting you over the next 20 years.

USA Tour Report

The 2004 Compac tour to Washington State and California was a great success. With packers representing Kiwifruit, Apples and Citrus from NZ and South Africa. Feedback from everyone on the tour was fantastic and we assured everybody learnt a lot and saw some of the largest packhouses in the world in operation. There is more to be learnt from other crops than many people realize.
Keep in touch with your local representative for details on the next tour in 2005.

New developments

InVision 9000 Blemish system.
Blemish Grading for Apples
Larson Fruit in Washington State USA commissioned their new 8 lane InVision 9000 Blemish system on November 15 2004. Processing Granny Smith, Braeburn, Fuji and Gala on their Compac water pre-size line, they have been enjoying significant labor savings and increased throughput.
A further order has been placed for a new Compac 20 lane sizer with InVision 9000 Blemish for another key Washington State packer, Zirkle Fruit Company for delivery in June 2005.
Blemish Grading for Kiwifruit
Italian customers have recently been enjoying the benefits of Compac inVision 9000 Blemish grading. Several sites have been operating with good results for Green and Gold fruit. This has allowed our development team to keep working on improvements as we continue to develop this technology. The Italian fruit offered some different defects from NZ, most of which the InVision 9000 system took in it's stride.
Feedback from Hume Pack'n'Cool this season in NZ showed a 20 to 30% increase of fruit processed with 6 less sorting staff and the same packing staff as the previous season!
Blemish Grading for Mandarins
Central Fruit packers in Queensland installed a Compac 8 lane pregrade line with InVision 9000 Blemish sorting in Feb. 2004. The results from the season were fantastic with average throughput up 25%. Total bins tipped more than double for the season plus 11 staff saved from the sorting area.
Blemish Grading for Lemons

An 8 lane Compac pregrade line is now operating in Chile for Lemons. Performance has been pleasing with the InVision 9000 system delivering on some tough grade standards.
Blemish Grading for Potatoes
A number of improvements have been made this year, all of which have been installed at Mondello Farms in South Australia, who were the first to use Compac technology for potatoes. A new Compac 8 lane line was also installed with InVision 9000 at Gawler River Produce in South Australia this year. With improved rotation from new design carriers, the InVision system is now able to really perform with the odd shapes potatoes and make the most of the high throughput rates of the Compac sizers.
